The Brief:
This heavily used multi purpose sports hall was suffering from usual problems of lamp and ballast failures in the existing metal halide fittings that had been installed some 20 years earlier. The client was seeking a robust LED fitting which would provide maintenance free lighting for many years.
The Solution:
We replaced the 400 Watt metal halide fittings with a very robust 120 Watt LED highbay product with a solid cast aluminium case and polycarbonate diffuser lens. This would be capable of taking direct hits from a football or basketball. The wide beam angle provided a beam pattern to suit the troughed ceiling layout and create a uniformed light spread on the playing surface. We used 5000k colour temperature LEDs which produced a clean white light while still maintaining respectable colour rendering of 80 CRI.
